Getting Into Hari Raya Mood

Ramadhan is coming to an end now and will be start with the Hari Raya Eid Fitri. It will be a celebration of victory for all who succeeded in completing their duties during Ramadhan as well as to welcome the month of Syawal. How fast the days have moved, it seemed only yesterday I’ve just started fasting.I’d like to take this opportunity to wish all my family, friends and colleagues Happy Holidays! and Selamat Hari Raya Aidilfitri, maaf zahir dan batin. I would like to also apologize for any wrong doings or harsh comments I might have made to everyone. We are only human so are prone to making mistakes. Do take care of yourself and your loved ones during this festive period.

BENEFIT OF RAMADHAN FASTING

SPIRITUAL BENEFITS

“O you who believe fasting is prescribed to you as it was prescribed to those before you so that you can learn Taqwa” (Quran 2:183)

At the beginning to end of Ramadan month, Muslims in every nook and corner of the world fast from dawn to dusk daily.

The Arabic word Taqwa is translated in English in many ways including God consciousness, God fearing, piety, and self restraining.

The temptations and ways of our world and surrounding tend to spoil our purity and austerity. Many useless things get prevented in this month of Ramadan. Over eating all the time creating obesity, drinking too much Coffee or Tea per day causes health problems. Sexaholics prevent themselves from it this month, sometimes while talking or arguing we resort to vulgar words and sometimes physical fight too without caring of the surrounding is prevented.

These things get prevented in this holy month, the person cannot even taste the food cooked by him or eat it, creating a self control on himself. Prevent oneself from useless gossips or talks and prevents the chain smokers from smoking for a great deal of time.

Looking on a person or a lady with lustful eyes is also prevented, more over some religious persons tell looking on the faces of the opposite gender, who is not your relative or family member during this holy month is a sin. Prevented from looking on to opposite gender.

MEDICAL BENFITS

Fasting by Muslims is not for medical benefits, that is of secondary nature. The adverse affects of fasting is that diets crash down as the calorie intake during this month of fasting is at or slightly below the national requirements guidelines.

Fasting is not being prescribed by a dietitian and its voluntarily done. As no extra proteins or fruit diets are taken, whatever that is permissible is taken in moderate quantities.

The only difference between total fasting and Ramadan is the food timing, a breakfast pretty soon and lunch is missed with no water intake, causing slight water dehydration but Human boby is strong enough to adjust it. In no way has fasting worsen any patient’s health or their baseline medical condition. Certain exemption for patients with diseases like type I diabetes or coronary artery disease, kidney stones, etc., are exempt from fasting and are not be allowed to fast.

PHYSIOLOGICAL BENEFITS

  • lowering of blood sugar.
  • lowering of cholesterol.
  • lowering of systolic blood pressure.

PSYCHOLOGICAL EFFECTS

  • peace
  • calmness
  • serenity
  • minimum hostility
  • crime rate decreases

In the last 10 days of Ramadan one of the odd nights is called the “Night of Power” when angels descend down, and take the prayers of worship of persons who pray with true heart to God for acceptance.

Fasting which is only between God and humans as it is a special act of worship as no one knows whether the person is actually fasting or just for the name sake acting as if he is fasting.

Thus Allah says in a hadith qudsi that “Fasting is for Me and I only will reward it”.

Another hadith as written, Prophet Mohammad (peace be upon him) says “If one does not give up falsehoods in words and actions, Allah has no need of him giving up food and drink”.

Bad Presentation...waa~~~

Today, I become the representative of WONDER-e Corporation to present our 4th week progress.

For our Hari Raya dedication business, we had stopped taking orders since 8th September. This is because we need to finish the packaging process before this week, as we plan to deliver the dedication before Hari Raya.

Due to the time limitation, we only manage to go to 5 DPPs- DPP Muamalat, YAB, Petronas, Sime Darby and EON. We met a lot of people and Alhamdulillah, their feedback was very good. We got at least 300 customers during the 1 ½ (one- and-a-half week) promotion.

On 10th September, we started to pack up all the items…teddy bears, cookies. We also wrote all the Hari Raya Cards to all of our customers. Honestly, the process was very tiring…we even stay up all night just to finish this. However, we did really enjoy it very much and it was a very good experience to all of us.

Actually, we had started delivering half of the dedication items. The best experience that we face during the delivery process is when looking at the smiling faces of the people who receive the dedication from their friends. Some even screamed. Looking at them just make us feel excited at the same time.

For the other half of the dedication, we’re going to deliver all of them this week and make sure everyone receive their wishes from their loved ones.

Let's Go Shopping!!!

Today, we started our first business activities with had a journey to the Padang Besar and Jitra to find all the things for our Hari Raya Dedication. This our journey is in fasting month. So, it quit hard and tiring to us. At the 12pm,our journey had started from UUM to Padang Besar. We set out on the 40 minutes drive from UUM to Padang Besar.

The journey to Padang Besar was a mind-releasing experience as we passed by kilometers of green sugar cane and paddy fields, all yielding under the magnificent blue and unpolluted Perlis sky with huge, puffy clouds lazily floating by.

Padang Besaq is how the locals would call Padang Besar. The Malay spoken in northern Malaysia, such as in Penang, Kedah and Perlis, is unique in that all words ending with the letter "r" is replaced by a nasalized "q". This huge marketplace which houses all sorts of items for sale such as clothes, watches, shoes, hats, bags, food items and most excitingly (for me, at least), cheap toys! Most of the clothes carry brand names such as Levis, Body Glove, and Adidas, while the men and women's watches sport well-known names such as Gucci, Rolex and Tissot, all at unbelievable low prices ! At the Padang Besar we had buy teddy bear. Before buy the bear, we was walking around the building to survey the price o teddy bear. And at last we found the shop that offer the lowers price and we feel so happy.

But, before one leaves Padang Besar, one is subjected to pass through police inspections. The police will usually check for rice smuggled in ridiculous amounts from Thailand by folks who are trying to sell them in Malaysia and skip on paying taxes for bringing in the goods. So if you're one of those people who engage in such smuggling activities, watch out, the police are going to so bite your sorry ass. After finished bought the teddy bear, we proceed to go to Jitra to buy kad raya, cookies and brooch. Had many shop we go at Jitra, to survey and low price of the things. Alhamdullilah, we had found one shop that offered a low price for the thing that we want. After that, we also decided to 'Berbuka Puasa' at Jitra. And, at 9.00 pm, we arrived at UUM.
